Cats held its first UK tour primarily at the biggest regional venues across the country, each stop lasting a number of months.
Production Details[]
The first UK Tour of Cats played at major venues in Blackpool in the north of England; Edinburgh in Scotland; and Dublin, Republic of Ireland. The production played for six months in Blackpool over the summer, allowing many people who travel to the resort city for summer holidays to experience the show without having to travel to London. It played for a further three months in both Scotland and Ireland, which speaks of an audience demand to see the high profile show in their own country.
The NAP 12 set was created for this production, which went on to be used in Zurich and the 1994 European Tour.
This production was closely modelled on the London production, but the "Chorus Cats" Victor, George, Electra and Etcetera were cut. However, as with the London production, the swings were given their own unique costumes as seen in the full cast images.
Marti Webb headlined the six month Blackpool stop. She was a well known star of Musical Theatre at the time, having collaborated with Andrew Lloyd Webber on "Tell Me on a Sunday" in 1979, along with numerous other credits. Many other cast members were given their break in this production, such as John Partridge, Rosemarie Ford, and a young Craig Revel Horwood.
