David Hibbard is an American performer who had a long involvement playing the Rum Tum Tugger in US productions of Cats. He was famously involved in a lawsuit over the January 30, 1996 performance of the Broadway production of Cats when he was accused of "assaulting" a female audience member while interacting with her as Tugger. Hibbard won the lawsuit.

He has also appeared in numerous Broadway and Off-Broadway shows including Once Upon a Mattress, A Class Act, Spamalot, Billy Elliot the Musical, and Forbidden Broadway. He now teaches vocal performance and audition technique at Collaborative Arts Project 21 (CAP21).


David is thrilled to make his Broadway debut in the role he first played with Cats fourth national tour. Off-Broadway: Chess, Leave it to Jane. Regional: Sondheim's Marry Me a Little (Olney Theatre), Bobby in The Boyfriend, Doody in Grease, Tommy in The Music Man, Hero in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Levi in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Snowboy in West Side Story. He recently performed with Marvin Hamlisch and the Pittsburgh Symphony. He obtained a music education degree from Ohio State.


DAVID HIBBARD (Rum Tum Tugger) is thrilled to region Cats after a nine-month leave. During this time he originated the role of the Jester in the B'way revival of Once Upon a Mattress (RCA Victor) starring Sarah Jessica Parker, and was in the original company of the highly-acclaimed Forbidden Broadway Strikes Back! Off-B'way: Chess, Leave it to Jane. Regional: Sondheim's Marry Me a Little; Bobby, The Boyfriend; Doody, Grease; Tommy, The Music Man; Hero, Forum; Levi in Joseph; Snowboy, West Side Story.
