Cats Costume Workshop
I know I probably shouldn't be thinking up a new project when we've barely scratched the surface of the cast database, but...
In my "day job", I'm a costume maker, and it was Cats (and Starlight Express, in equal measure) that inspired me into the vocation. Mostly I work freelance and make Cats cosplays. I've acquired quite a lot of knowledge over the years...
The question is, I want to build up a detailed tutorial site, but should it be park of this wiki, or a separate project?
A lot of the tutorials will focus on the authentic costumes, how they're made, and how to replicate the effects, so a lot of photo galleries will draw from images already on this wiki. The other elements fit under the definition of "Fandom" or Amateur productions, …
London Palladium
When it comes to categorising the current London production, what are we going to do?
- "London Palladium Cast" etc
- "London Revival Cast"
- use the same "London Cast" category as the original production
- Use the illogical but technically accurate "UK Tour Cast"
My personal preference would be to use "London Palladium Cast" or even "Palladium Cast" since that's very much how the community's referring to the production, it's the Palladium version of the show being shipped out around the world (unfortunately!)
"London Revival" doesn't feel right, to me at least, since this production is a direct descendant from the original - the 3rd UK Tour went out almost straight after the show closed in London, and the 4th UK Tour was a straight repeat of that, an…
Cast Database
I've been contemplating the idea of making a Cats cast database... it's a daunting job tho!
We've done similar over on the Starlight Express Wiki - where every cast member has an individual page. These range from the most basic, such as Anna Woodside (Current Demeter in the Palladium) to a full career page with photos, interviews and links like Mykal Rand (18 years on skates as well as working as resident director).
Part of what I find very interesting is when people have started as small roles in one production, then moved to larger roles/into directing or choreography, and that earlier experience influences their work later. It's also interesting to see who worked with who in the same cast - for example, Ruthie Henshall was Jemima…

Wiki background?
The current wiki background - I'm sure one of the founders put a lot of effort into compiling it, but a long while back. I was wondering if we want to update it to something somewhat smoother and sleeker?
My initial impulse is to have the yellow eyes tiled across the whole width - as it currently is in the centre but hidden by the site text. Alternately we could have a picture of the set across, so the edges are the junkyard? Or we could keep the current concept of a character collage and just update it somewhat?
Also, I've updated the favicon and the logo top left - not changing the design, just using higher resolution images :)
Photo IDs?
So I've gone through and re-named as many pictures as I can - some are a guess, so if you spot any mistakes please let me know! One thing I really like about the wiki is the ability to add a description of the photo - ideally I'd like to get actors, production, year, photographer credit, and if possible, a legit source, in for each of them! Not going to be possible with the older ones, but more recent digital press images we should be able to get proper credits going.
There's some I can't ID properly, Google has let me down... if you know who these are, even just productions, chime in!

Fandom/ Headcanons/ Fanfic Ideas
What's come to my attention this morning, was an anonymous edit removing the fandom section on Jemima 's page. I'm very much in two minds on this... because what is written there is entirely fan-theory, there's no evidence onstage to back up the ideas. (the link between Jemima and syrup is ridiculous in Britain, it's a common girl's name)
But.
Under a section clearly marking these ideas as fan concepts, is it so bad? It's barely an extension of the "Relationships" section as far as there being grounds behind what's there, most of the relationships are fanfic ideas.
In fact, I'd like to split the relationships section in two - some relationships ARE canon, and if we can source references, that should be made clear. for example, UK product…
Asian Tours Etc
It can be hard to tell, when looking at past productions, whether Cats playing in one location was a resident production or part of a tour, especially when tours can stop for several months at a time. There are various clues, such as cast information, reasonable gaps between dates, but without the official word it is hard to be sure.
There is also the question of how to define the various tours that are rooted in the Australian production... Initially Australian tour, then Australian with a few Asian stops, then around the world. But these productions all seem to be linked stylistically and by the same creative team.

Character Profile Pics
So, I'm going through re-naming photos, trying to catch all the pages that need editing to the new photo names as I go, but I'm sure I'm missing some as I go - and I'm also trying to improve the quality of the photos as I go. ie, finding higher resolution versions, less tightly cropped versions... but I think I may have made a mistake or two doing that, that there were photos cropped down to be character headshots for the character pages.
The solution that comes to my mind, therefore, is to have photos uploaded not as "Bway Sillabub 3" to use as a headshot, but something like "Profile Sillabub.jpg", specifically as a portrait for the character page. Hello,
For most of the CATS pages on Wikipedia, it has a section that states which actors have played the parts of the cat. I think the feature would be useful if we added it on the pages here-what does everybody think? Also, would it be a good idea to create pages for the individual poems by TS Eliot?
Admin - Where to start?
Well! Beckward has very kindly made me an Admin, as I seem to be spending time hands-on with this wiki at the moment... I don't want to leap in making major changes, but I do want to use these powers for good! So far I've just deleted a few duplicate pages, and installed the maps feature, which I've been longing to play with in a Cats context for ages! I find it fascinating to tag the places mentioned in the poems onto a map of the UK... We can also use it for mapping productions and tours, the more factual information!

Admin Help
So, there's a slightly... awkward situation going on here. Basically, this wiki was set up a couple years ago, by the original admins, and then it went dormant. Then, new people including myself, thought it was a great start and picked up the editing and have expanded on what was originally here. But... we don't have admin access. There's some things you need an admin to do - delete pages, add new features, and change the basic structure like the headings and the background.
There's one particular feature I'd love to add, the ability to tag maps. Not only would it be interesting to pin all the productions worldwide to a world map, I'd also love to go through all the locations mentioned in the poems, add them to a map of London.

Costume Design groups and generations
I'm musing on the different costume design groups... Basically, within the umbrella of the licenced replica productions, there's... what, 4 main groups of costume design-
- London - video, UK tour, Russia, recent German
- Broadway - US tours, early German etc
- World Tour - Australian, Asia tours
- Japan.
You can argue that Hamburg costumes developed distinctly separate from the US tours, but they start back at the same root - Parsons Meares on Broadway. London style costumes were in their own little bubble until the success of the video spreading that interpretation of the character designs. Japan is still its own bubble, descended from the 1981 London designs in a unique direction, distinctly Japanese in influence. The World tour costumes have a…

I'm hoping this will work... just need somewhere to stash the code for a template Cats cast list, we can copy and paste into articles rather than typing up the whole lot every time? "Amphibolical" seems to be a TS Eliot special word, "Amphibolic" has a medical meaning of "irregular or uncertain outcome", "amphibological" means "of doubtful meaning, ambiguous". Neither version seems to quite apply to a cast listed alphabetically by character not actor, but the term is used in every Cats cast list....

Wiki Background
Hello Cats Wiki users and visitors!
I've managed to find time to come up with a design for the background of this wiki. Yes, it still needs some work and clean-up (I didn't have time to do that yet), but I want to know if you have any comments on the overall design. When I have time, I'll clean-up what still needs to be perfected, but if anyone has any suggestions, let me know.

I'm four days away from getting the 'Two Weeks on the Wiki' badge (which would be awesome for my already massive self esteem (see; ego)) when I forget to update one day, and suddenly I have to start again.
Four days in, I do it again. Grrr!
Doesn't this site have some kind of qeueing method or something, like Tumblr? You know, where you can make up a list of posts set to post every few hours/minutes/days while you're away from your computer?
That would be really helpful. That way I could write up a heap of pages, Qeue them, and then work on the wiki without worrying about updating every day. Because, you know, outside stuff requires my attention sometimes.

Message Wall
Since I love talking to other people on the wiki, and it'll certainly make it more fun to be involved in the wiki, I added the Message Wall feature. It's very similar to the Talk feature that was on everyone's User page, but stylistically it's a lot cleaner, easier to use, and it just looks a lot better. Hopefully more people will be willing to talk to each other using the new message feature! If you want to learn more about it, check it out here.

Cats Relationships
Hello Cats Wiki users and visitors!
Since there aren't any actual 'canon' relationships in Cats, I've created this template to go in the relationship section:
From all the performances I've seen (live performances, recorded performances on YouTube, and the movie), the relationships, the cats' colors, their ages, and to a certain degree, their personalities are variable. Since there is nothing definite about any of these things, I think we should make sure that wiki visitors understand that these details are fan opinion. I've set up below what the relationships section on a character page should look like. Try to keep everything in the proper areas when editing. You can put moments from productions or the movie to back up a relationship exam…
